Alpha Phi survives Hurricane Irene 08/29/2011

Despite the thrashing winds and torrential downpour of Hurricane Irene, members of Alpha Phi braved the tropical storm as it struck the east coast. While most of DC stayed in for the night, sisters of Alpha Phi refused to let a little rain get in the way of a fun time!

Greek Woman of the Month- Dominique DeAngelo 02/27/2011

Our very own sister Nika DeAngelo  was featured in the Panhellenic Newsletter as the Greek Woman of the Month for January!

Some of her achievements include: being awarded a $1,500 summer language study grant from the Elliott School's Institute of Middle East Studies, the maximum amount available to any one student. She is now deciding between Damascus, Syria, or Cairo, Egypt as her destination to further her knowledge of the Middle East. Regardless of where she winds up, she will certainly be spending the summer captivated by a world far different than the average summer vacation spent by the pool. We are so very proud of Nika for all of her amazing accomplishments thus far! We look forward to hearing about many more great things that our fellow sister will achieve in the future.

Alpha Phi Celebrates Heart Week 2011 02/27/2011

Earlier this month, from February 10-12, Alpha Phi celebrated our annual Heart Week. We had such a great time at the King of Hearts Party, the Dating Game, and our Hoops for Hearts tournament. This year, we decided to switch things up and incorporate sororities into our Hoops for Hearts Tournament with a mini hula hoop competition where Chi Omega took home first place!

Congrats to Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity for winning first place overall and bringing their A-Game! We really want to thank each and every fraternity and sorority that participated in our Heart Week this year. We had such a great time and raised a great amount of money for women's cardiac health, so it was definitely a success!

Alpha Phi at Arlington Wreath-Laying Ceremony 01/27/2011

This past December, numerous members of Alpha Phi participated in the Arlington National Cemetery Wreath-Laying Ceremony for the second year in a row, joining hundreds of volunteers from the DC area. As part of the Wreaths Across America Project, the Arlington National Cemetery Wreath-Laying Ceremony adorns the headstones of fallen troops with 24,000 holiday wreaths in order to commemorate their service and remember their sacrifice during the holiday season. Members of Alpha Phi, alongside members of Sigma Chi and Phi Sigma Sigma, each placed a holiday wreath on the grave of a fallen solider. It was a solemn yet extremely memorable occasion, and the members of Alpha Phi enjoyed the opportunity to unite with the greater DC community.

This past Sunday Alpha Phi participated in KidFest which was an indoor festival with other GWU organizations to take part in activities and entertainment for young children. The kids came dressed up in their Halloween costumes!

Alpha Phi had a cupcake project where children could decorate and design their own cupcakes! It was a really fun time and the costumes were great!

This week are participating in Greek Week partnered with Sigma Chi and two multi-cultural groups. In addition, there is external philanthropy, sisterhood and more!

                            Big/Little Week! 10/21/2010

Last week Alpha Phi participated in Sigma Chi's Derby Days and PiKapp's War of the Roses. We had a great turn out and as always, it was fun to hang out with our fellow greek organizations.

Last weekend was Parent' s Weekend when we hosted our 4th Annual Red Dress Gala. It was a very successful event on the Spirit Cruise ship. All of the girls looked great and it was wonderful being able to share that experience with everyone's families.

Tomorrow the BIGS will finally reveal themselves to their littles! It has been an exciting week full of surprises, baked goods and special deliveries! Everyone is thrilled to have new family members!
