a letter from our

As young women come to college, they often leave behind childhood friends and family who formed their support system. Many feel a sense of loss and doubt as they begin a new journey without the women they may have referred to as “sisters”.  Then, however, joining Alpha Phi is like finding a safety net.

Becoming a member of Alpha Phi means finding new “sisters” to stand by you through anything that comes your way. We have weekly dinner hours and regular, fun sisterhood events, like Soul Cycle classes or tours of DC’s National Mall, promoting a sense of community throughout our chapter. However, to the women of Alpha Phi, being a sister means more than just attending these events. To us, sisterhood is finding the women who will support you when you need it most, challenge you to be the best version of yourself, and cheer you on as you work towards your goals. A sister is someone who inspires you, encourages you, and accepts you. Our chapter is made up of an incredibly diverse group of women, and our passions unite us as the fiercely loyal group of women that is Alpha Phi.

Alpha Phi’s motto, “union hand in hand”, perfectly illustrates the strong bonds our sisters form. The connections and friendships you make at Alpha Phi last not for four years, but for life.

With Love,

Jordann Smith - Kingston
